Director, International Mining Group
Olympus Scientific Solutions
Todd graduated from the University of Newcastle, Australia in 1993 with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Environmental). He worked for 7 years as a contaminated land consultant in Australia and the UK before being introduced to handheld XRF while remediating a Pb contaminated site in Sydney. From 2000-2004, he worked in Australia using handheld XRF as a consultant, a contractor and in sales capacities on multiple contamination projects before being drawn into the minerals sector with the technology. Since 2004 he has held global sales, marketing and business development positions focused on minerals applications within two of the major global handheld XRF companies. He has published various papers, run industry workshops and presented at numerous conferences around the world on portable XRF. He is currently Director of Olympus’ International Mining Group based out of Hertfordshire in the UK and has worked extensively with mining and exploration companies in the Balkans.
The Portable Analytical Decade (2008-2018)
The last decade (2008-2018) has seen an unprecedented acceleration in the adoption of pXRF and pXRD analysers within the mineral exploration and mining industries. This talk will aim to summarize the key advancements and achievements of these technologies, as well as application development.
Key highlights will include:
Innovation (Hardware, software, computing power & ruggedization)
New generation High Count Rate (HCR) Digital Pulse Processing (DPP) that has sped up and de-bottlenecked performance
The continual drive towards lower LOD’s and expansion of the element suite (light elements & REE’s)
The uptake and innovation in field-based sample preparation equipment
Real-time QA/QC, data management, visualisation and the move to cloud-based data delivery and adoption of best practice workflows
Innovative Applications including Chemo-stratigraphy, Gold pathfinders & alteration vectoring
Li, REE & Battery Metals
GeoMet applications
JORC / 43-101 considerations
